Reforesting Our Land

We are working hard to preserve and extend our precious patch of native bush. We hope to return much of our pasture to forest over time.

Planting Native Trees

We have a beautiful area of New Zealand native forest near the main Villa which has survived tree felling, farming and orcharding over the past 150 years. It is small but remarkable in its biodiversity. New Zealand’s forest is rare, delicate and endangered so every scrap is precious. We have worked hard to extend this natural habitat and aim to replant much of the farm in native trees. We have a QEII covenant on our bush which means it can never be felled and we recently received a government grant to help with our reforestation programme, in recognition of the work we are doing. Our guests are welcome to explore and enjoy our little haven.

Commemorate your trip and offset carbon by planting trees at Lancewood Villa.

Many of our guests choose to commemorate their stay with us by planting a tree, which we are happy to give them.

We also offer our guests a way to offset the carbon from their trip by donating trees to our reforestation project which ensures every tree planted will be preserved. Since many of our guests come from Europe, this can be a beautiful and personal way to balance the equation. You are welcome to plant them yourself or we are happy to do it!

A loose rule of thumb is that one well cared for tree can be equated with a ton of carbon sequestered. We have estimated some common return flights to Lancewood Villa and approximated a tree donation. As this is a rough calculation, please feel free to donate whatever feels right to you.

EUROPE TO NEW ZEALAND: 5.01 tonnes of Carbon = 5 trees
AUSTRALIA TO NELSON: 0.6 tonnes of carbon = 2 trees
AUCKLAND TO NELSON: 0.14 tonnes = 1 tree
