The historic Upper Moutere village with landmark Lutheran church and other heritage buildings
is a popular tourist destination. There’s the atmospheric old Moutere inn with great local brews and meals, a general store for milk and bread, a delightful pottery (Katie Gold and Owen Bartlett) and the Old Post Office shop selling crafts and local produce including hazelnuts, olive oil, sheep’s milk cheese and dried gourmet mushrooms.
Within a small radius, you will find many award-winning boutique vineyards. The Upper Moutere area is renowned for its distinctive wines produced from grapes which flourish in the Mediterranean-like climate and mineral-rich clay. Mapua village by the sea is also a charming and very popular place for its cafes, local beer, and craft shops.
Lancewood Villa is a great place for those who wish to enjoy the countryside by motor vehicle or bicycle. The nearby newly developed coastal cycleway and Great Taste Trail offers much to explore. We have two bicycles for hire, but extra cycles can be hired from local cycle tour operators. We are happy to help you with cycle hire arrangements or you can visit the following cycle tour websites to make your own: www.gentlecycling.co.nz or www.wheeliefantastic.co.nz
